1916
The Beginning

K. Somu Chetty & Co. was founded in 1916 by our great-grandfather, Mr. Somuchettiyar, at 173, Rasappa
Chetty Street, Chennai. The business began with the trading of herbs and soon became well known for
supplying candles and candle raw materials to the wholesale market.
His vision, integrity, and dedication laid the foundation for a business that has continued to grow for over a
century.

1956–2007
Expansion Under Mr. Sadasivam

The business was taken forward by our grandfather, Mr. Sadasivam, who expanded the company from a
single shop to two wholesale establishments. During this era, K. Somu Chetty & Co. became one of the
leading wholesale suppliers of bitumen and wax, serving numerous multinational companies and
supplying materials for major State Road infrastructure projects across India.
His leadership strengthened the company's reputation for quality, reliability, and long-lasting customer
relationships.

2011
Diversification into Pooja Products

Under the leadership of Mr. S. Manikandan, the company diversified into the pooja products market. A
wide range of new products was introduced, significantly expanding our product portfolio and
strengthening our supply chain.
This strategic expansion enabled us to build strong relationships with customers across India and
established K. Somu Chetty & Co. as a trusted name in the pooja and herbal products industry.

2016
Celebrating 100 Years of Excellence

K. Somu Chetty & Co. proudly celebrated its 100th Anniversary, marking a century of trust, quality, and
customer satisfaction.
Building on this remarkable milestone, the company expanded its global reach by exporting products to
Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and the United States, taking the legacy of K. Somu Chetty & Co. beyond Indian
borders.

2022
Entering Manufacturing

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the company entered the field of Sambrani manufacturing, marking a
new chapter in its journey.
We established our own manufacturing facility and launched our flagship brands:
Indira Sambrani
Indira Premium Dhoop Sticks
This transformation from a wholesale trading company to a manufacturer strengthened our commitment
to delivering premium-quality products directly to customers.

2024
A Breakthrough Year

The year 2024 became one of the most significant milestones in the history of K. Somu Chetty & Co.
The company was officially recognized as an MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise) and
successfully secured the Trademark for the Indira brand, reinforcing our identity and protecting our
products in the marketplace.
During the same year, Indira Premium Dhoop Sticks and Indira Sambrani Cones achieved remarkable
commercial success, gaining widespread recognition and becoming one of the preferred incense products
in the market. This achievement laid a strong foundation for the future growth of our manufacturing and
branding journey.

2026
A New Milestone

In 2026, K. Somu Chetty & Co. successfully inaugurated its second wholesale outlet, marking another
important milestone in our growth journey.
